Jalapeno Chilli Seeds – 10 seeds to grow at home
Jalapeno chilli seeds (10 pcs) are seeds of the chilli plant Jalapeno (Capsicum annuum), which grows 60 – 100 cm tall and bears red fruits 8 – 10 cm long. The heat of the fruits is 5,000 – 8,000 SHU (Mild category, mild), and ripening takes 60 days on average. Looking for jalapeno seeds? You are in the right place.
A polytunnel or greenhouse is ideal for growing chillies from seed, but you can also raise Jalapeno at home on a windowsill or in a pot on the balcony. We sow in mid-February and plant outside in May, once there is no more risk of night frosts.
Jalapeno chilli pepper
Jalapeño is the best-known Mexican chilli, with juicy, fleshy fruits and a gentle heat. You can pick it green or let it ripen to red – it is excellent fresh, pickled or sliced onto a pizza. With your own harvest it is easy to make homemade pickled jalapeños.
How to sow chilli seeds – germination and young plants
- Sowing: mid-February in seed compost, 2 – 3 seeds per cell (not every seed germinates)
- Germinating chilli seeds: the ideal temperature is 24 – 30 °C; keep the compost moist but not wet
- After germination: room temperature and plenty of light – in winter, LED lighting helps
- Repotting: move stronger seedlings into larger pots
- Planting out: in May after the last night frosts – into a polytunnel, greenhouse, garden bed or a pot on the balcony
Tip: to start your seedlings you can use our GROW BOX with LED lighting – a mini greenhouse for your table that includes everything you need, seeds included. If you do not want to wait, choose ready-grown chilli plants instead.
What is it good with?
Slice the fruits into tacos, burgers, nachos or omelettes, stuff them with cheese, or pickle them in a jar for sandwiches and pizza.
Who is it for?
The ideal first variety for beginners – undemanding, quick to ripen and happy in a pot on the balcony. Chilli seeds also make a nice little gift for hobby gardeners and lovers of spicy food.
