Trinidad Scorpion Red Chilli Seeds – 10 seeds to grow at home
Trinidad Scorpion Red chilli seeds (10 pcs) are seeds of the chilli plant Trinidad Scorpion Red (Capsicum chinense), which grows 100 – 180 cm tall and bears red fruits 4 – 5 cm long. The heat of the fruits is approx. 1,500,000 – 2,000,000 SHU (Ultra category, ultra hot), and ripening takes 100 days on average.
A polytunnel or greenhouse is ideal for growing chillies from seed, but you can also raise Trinidad Scorpion Red at home on a windowsill or in a pot on the balcony. We sow in mid-February and plant outside in May, once there is no more risk of night frosts.
Trinidad Scorpion Red chilli pepper
The Trinidad Scorpion comes from the island of Trinidad, and its fruits carry the typical "scorpion sting" tail. It is one of the hottest chillies in the world – beneath the fruity taste hides a fire that keeps building.
How to sow chilli seeds – germination and young plants
- Sowing: mid-February in seed compost, 2 – 3 seeds per cell (not every seed germinates)
- Germinating chilli seeds: the ideal temperature is 24 – 30 °C; keep the compost moist but not wet
- After germination: room temperature and plenty of light – in winter, LED lighting helps; superhot varieties germinate more slowly, so be patient
- Repotting: move stronger seedlings into larger pots
- Planting out: in May after the last night frosts – into a polytunnel, greenhouse, garden bed or a pot on the balcony
Tip: to start your seedlings you can use our GROW BOX with LED lighting – a mini greenhouse for your table that includes everything you need, seeds included. If you do not want to wait, choose ready-grown chilli plants instead.
What is it good with?
Make a fiery hot sauce or chilli mash, or add a tiny piece to curry, chilli con carne or a marinade for grilled meat.
Who is it for?
For experienced growers who dare to try superhot varieties. Chilli seeds also make a nice little gift for hobby gardeners and lovers of spicy food.
