Brown Bhutlah Chilli Seeds – 10 seeds to grow at home
Brown Bhutlah chilli seeds (10 pcs) are seeds of the chilli plant Brown Bhutlah (Capsicum chinense), which grows 100 – 180 cm tall and bears brown fruits approx. 6 cm long. The heat of the fruits is approx. 1,000,000 SHU (Ultra category, ultra hot), and ripening takes 60 days on average.
A polytunnel or greenhouse is ideal for growing chillies from seed, but you can also raise Brown Bhutlah at home on a windowsill or in a pot on the balcony. We sow in mid-February and plant outside in May, once there is no more risk of night frosts.
Brown Bhutlah chilli pepper
Brown Bhutlah (sometimes spelled Brown Butlah) is a brown, chocolate-coloured superhot variety with wrinkled fruits and an earthy, slightly smoky taste. It is especially popular with collectors of unusual colours.
How to sow chilli seeds – germination and young plants
- Sowing: mid-February in seed compost, 2 – 3 seeds per cell (not every seed germinates)
- Germinating chilli seeds: the ideal temperature is 24 – 30 °C; keep the compost moist but not wet
- After germination: room temperature and plenty of light – in winter, LED lighting helps; superhot varieties germinate more slowly, so be patient
- Repotting: move stronger seedlings into larger pots
- Planting out: in May after the last night frosts – into a polytunnel, greenhouse, garden bed or a pot on the balcony
Tip: to start your seedlings you can use our GROW BOX with LED lighting – a mini greenhouse for your table that includes everything you need, seeds included. If you do not want to wait, choose ready-grown chilli plants instead.
What is it good with?
The earthy, smoky character suits dark, rich hot sauces, BBQ glazes, chilli con carne and marinades for grilled meat – in very small amounts.
Who is it for?
For experienced chilli growers and collectors of chocolate-brown superhot varieties. Chilli seeds also make a nice little gift for hobby gardeners and lovers of spicy food.
